Meta has introduced one of the biggest design changes Facebook has seen in years, rolling out a fresh, Instagram-like interface that shifts the platform toward a more visual and creator-focused experience.

The redesign brings grid-style photo posts, double-tap likes, and an upgraded media-heavy feed, changes that align Facebook more closely with the aesthetics of Instagram, a move Meta hopes will boost engagement in 2026.

Facebook's new Instagram-style features

The update brings the grid layout of multi-photo posts, replacing Facebook's traditional stacked gallery format. Users will now be able to like photos with a double tap, much like the core interaction on Instagram.

Meta has also elevated creation tools, such as music overlays, tagging options, and improved editing shortcuts, front and centre to make posting faster and more intuitive. Search results now display a full grid of photos, videos, and other media for a more immersive browsing experience.

The platform is further streamlined by a more simplified comments interface and a cleaner navigation bar. Another new feedback control that Meta will be launching makes it possible for users to flag irrelevant content directly from the feed.

Modelled after similar features in Instagram and Threads, the feature aims to give people more control over the algorithm shaping recommendations.

Analysts say that the visual revamp reflects a broader Meta strategy to combat falling engagement on Facebook's traditional text-heavy feed.

Early internal testing in Southeast Asia reportedly showed significantly higher interaction rates when grid view and double-tap gestures were enabled.

Social media strategists point out that the grid posts improve the visibility for multi-photo content, and such consistent visual layouts will help creators maintain cross-platform aesthetics.

Advertisers also anticipate stronger performance in lifestyle, travel, fashion, and food categories where visuals drive conversions.
