Telegram, the widely used messaging platform, has introduced a fresh update packed with enhancements to the calling functionality, a new animated feature for deleting messages, and an extensive revamp of its bot platform, integrating reactions and more.

This recent update closely follows the Christmas update that introduced new customisable elements to channel appearances and the ability to share posts in stories. Already available on both Android and iOS platforms, this latest update comes as Telegram 10.5.0, launched on December 31.

The 10.5.0 update amplifies the calling feature by bringing several improvements. Telegram's end-to-end encrypted calls have undergone a complete redesign, incorporating dynamic animations and adaptable backgrounds that adjust based on call status — be it incoming, active, or terminated.

According to a blog post detailing the update, the revamped call interface is less demanding on system resources, resulting in reduced battery consumption and smoother operation, particularly on older devices. Additionally, the update includes enhancements in call quality and an array of bug fixes. Telegram has also hinted at forthcoming enhancements in call connection and audio quality.

Among its new features, the update introduces a Thanos snap-inspired animation for message deletion. Initially introduced as an experimental animation solely for auto-deleted messages on iOS in November, the disintegration animation now appears whenever any message is deleted on both iOS and Android versions of the Telegram app.

Notably, Telegram claims to have implemented its most extensive bot platform update ever. These bots enable developers to incorporate more automated tools and functionalities into the messaging application.
