The first supermoon of 2024 is just around the corner, and it's going to be a sight to behold. This rare celestial event occurs when the Moon is at its closest point to Earth in its elliptical orbit, making it appear larger and brighter than usual.

What is a supermoon?

A supermoon occurs when the when the Moon is at its closest point to Earth in its elliptical orbit, called perigee, and when it is full. That means it will look larger and brighter than usual in the sky. The term "supermoon" was given by astrologer Richard Nolle in 1979, and that has stuck ever since when referring to this phenomenon.

When will supermoon be visible?

The first supermoon of the year makes an appearance tomorrow night, hitting peak illumination around 10:00 pm EST. However, the 'Full Moon' phase will appear full from tonight till Thursday night, so it will be a nice view for star gazers during this period.
