Google has begun rolling out a new full-screen account switcher in its first-party apps, starting with Gmail for Android.
This updated design replaces the previous overlay-style account switcher, which allows users to see the background content.
The new account switcher is currently available in Gmail for Android version 2024.11.24.x.
New full-screen account switcher in Gmail
The new full-screen account switcher takes over the entire screen, featuring a dynamic colour-themed background with an "X" icon in the top-right corner to close the window.
Users can also navigate back or select an account to exit the switcher.
The redesigned account switcher displays the user's email address, followed by a large profile picture and a greeting message.
Moreover, a "Manage your Google Account" button is featured, along with options to switch accounts, add new accounts, and manage accounts on the device.
In Gmail, the account switcher also displays the user's storage usage. The page also includes buttons for Google's “Privacy Policy” and “Terms of Service.”
While the new design aims to provide a more user-friendly experience, some users might also find the full-screen approach unnecessary.
