Google Calendar has rolled out its long-awaited dark mode feature on its web version. This feature is supposed to ease the eyes and offer users even more customisation options. With dark mode, users can now select between light, dark, or a device default theme.

Before this update, users had to rely on third-party extensions to enable dark mode. However, those extensions may no longer work properly due to the official rollout.

Google Calendar dark mode features

Google Calendar's dark mode is part of a broader redesign aligned with Material Design 3, the latest framework used across Google apps like Gmail and Drive. The update includes modernised typography and controls for better accessibility and a cleaner look.

However, there is still room for improvement: the white background of the Google logo in the top corner contrasts with the dark theme, which may be a distraction for some users.

How to activate Google Calendar dark mode

To turn on dark mode in Google Calendar, go to the settings cog in the top right, select "Appearance," and choose your theme. The drop-down now also offers display density options, giving the platform even more flexibility.

Google Calendar dark mode availability

This dark mode update is available to both the Workspace and personal Gmail accounts. It comes with a pop-up notification so that no one is left in the dark.

Whether it's managing meetings or planning events, this is an update that will make Google Calendar comfortable and customisable to use for extended sessions.
