Google is enhancing Chrome PDF reader by introducing the “Link to Text Fragment” feature, making it easier to share specific sections of lengthy documents.

Already available in Google Chrome for webpages, this feature allows users to select text, generate a link, and share it with other users, who can also then access the highlighted text.

Currently, this feature is not compatible with PDFs, but the tech giant is working to integrate it into the Chrome PDF reader.

The feature was spotted by a Chromium code sleuth, Leo, who shared their findings on X (formerly Twitter).

The X user revealed that Google plans to enable text selection in PDFs, followed by the addition of  "Copy link to highlight" option and the ability to share it with others.

Once implemented, this feature will streamline the process of sharing and accessing specific information within PDFs.

Although Google is still testing this feature, its eventual rollout in a stable version remains to be confirmed.

On the sidelines of supporting text fragments in the PDF viewer, Google is also working to improve tab grouping and scam detection with artificial intelligence (AI).
