Google Maps is rolling out a fresh wave of updates just in time for the holiday travel rush, including new “know before you go” tips powered by Gemini AI.

The feature aims to give users practical, location-specific advice before they reach their destination.

Last week, Google announced some feature improvements coming to Maps, and one of the biggest additions is AI-powered tips for places like restaurants, attractions, and event venues.

Unlike basic summaries that highlight recurring themes in user reviews, these new tips focus on actionable information designed to improve your visit.

Google claims the system picks up relevant information from real-world sources that include everything from parking guidance and peak hours down to lesser-known menu items or venue rules you might not catch otherwise.

Though early results are a mix of useful suggestions and more general review summaries, its utility will no doubt depend on the quality and depth of available data for any particular location.

The "know before you go" feature is still in early stages, but it's yet another step in Google's push to build AI-assisted travel tools that help users make better decisions before they head out.

The update isn't the only new capability surfacing on Maps this weekend. Pixel 10 users have also started seeing a new power-saving navigation mode, which switches to a minimalist, monochrome interface to extend battery life on long trips.

Google claims the mode can add up to four extra hours of usage, a useful boost during extended holiday journeys.
