Google Maps has introduced a new feature specifically designed to help users identify businesses that might have posted fake reviews on the app.

Taking scam reviews posted by certain businesses seriously, a warning system has been integrated that will issue a notification to the business profile showing unusually high or low reviews.

According to the Search Engine Roundtable, the search giant is implementing a warning card within Google Maps. The warning card will notify users regarding fake reviews being removed from the list.

This warning will make users more conscious when deciding to choose local businesses and services. Additionally, the warning once issued, will limit the activity of such businesses, temporarily restricting them from adding new reviews.

How to report fake business reviews on Google Maps

  1. Open Google Maps and navigate to the business profile you want to report.
  2. Now, tap three dots in the top right corner.
  3. Then, select “Report” and also choose any specific reason such as fake or misleading.
  4. Explain your issue in detail if required.
  5. Submit your report. Google will further review the report and take action accordingly.

This new Google Maps feature was first spotted in the UK and has now begun to roll out in the US. However, Google has yet to specify the exact criteria for determining unusual ratings.
