Google is introducing a revamped “Start a call” screen within the Google Meet app for Android users, simplifying the way users connect with friends and family for virtual meetings.
The revamped screen aligns with the Material 3 design language and offers a more intuitive and visually appealing video-calling experience for users.
Google Meet's “Start a call” feature
The new “Start a call” screen features a pill-shaped search bar at the top from where users can quickly search for contacts to call directly from the start screen.

The search bar is followed by large, prominent buttons to create meeting links and new groups, and to schedule meetings.
The screen also includes a new “Suggestions” section that includes recent contacts only, making it easier for users to start a meeting without scrolling through the entire contact list.
Additionally, on the new home screen, a dedicated shortcut is also present within the search bar to start meetings with a code, an important feature for pre-arranged calls.
The “Start a call” feature was first available to enterprise Google Meet users only. However, it is now rolling out to free Google Account users having Android devices with version 266 of the Google Meet app.
