Google removes 'Extra Dim' toggle on Pixel 10

Google has officially eliminated the standalone 'Extra Dim' toggle in Android 16 on the Pixel 10 series while including it directly in the brightness slider.

The "Extra Dim" option was made available in Android 12, allowing users to decrease the display brightness below the available brightness that is on the slider. This option has been useful for dark environments, but it was separate from the brightness slider, and users would often forget this option was enabled, and that is when confusion arose when users would find brightness levels looking inconsistent.

When the Pixel 10 first launched, users saw a popup with a message indicating, "Extra Dim is now part of the brightness slider," which does make brightness adjustment easier, integrating the dimming functionality within the brightness slider, however, it is like having the brightness slider expanded to include the dimming functionality.

This change was first noticed during the Android 16 beta testing time when Google briefly placed the toggle into Display settings and then reverted in Beta 3. The full rollout indicates this design will not be changing from this point forward.

In terms of functionality, ''Extra Dim'' will still function like it did beforehand, reducing the perceived brightness of the display by altering the output of the display without changing the physical minimum brightness of the screen.
