All Android apps have to go through a strict review process before they are allowed to be available on Google Play Store. Despite these rules, sometimes low-effort apps manage to make their way to Google's app store.
To overcome this issue, Google frequently launches crackdowns against such low-quality apps to remove them from the app store, to enhance users' experience.
Google said that their recent action is to ensure apps are meeting the designed standards.

Moreover, all apps on the Play Store need to have an engaging and responsive user experience. Otherwise, they will be removed by Google reviewers.
Additionally, Google explained that such limited functionality and apps have the following characteristics.
Either they're static, meaning with no specific functionalities. Examples of such apps include text-only or PDF apps and single wallpaper apps that fail to provide an engaging user experience with very little content.
This new policy of Google will take effect on August 31, 2024, resulting in the removal of many apps in the Play Store, including some legitimate apps.
It’s worth noting that this is not the first time Google has taken such action against apps as in 2020, Google removed Mitron and Remove China Apps from the Play Store due to violation of Google's spam and minimum functionality' policy.
