Google is shutting down 1st-gen Nest Aware subscriptions in certain regions, starting May 1, 2025. The company stopped selling new subscriptions in July 2023 but allowed existing users to continue.
Google has begun emailing customers about the upcoming changes, urging them to switch to the latest Nest Aware plans before the deadline.
What Is Nest Aware?
Nest Aware is Google’s subscription service that provides event video history, smart alerts, and emergency features for Nest cameras and doorbells. The original 1st-gen Nest Aware charged per camera, while the newer version, launched in 2020, offers a flat rate for all devices in a home.
What are new Nest Aware plans?
Google now offers two Nest Aware plans:
- Nest Aware ($8/month or $80/year): 30 days of event video history
- Nest Aware Plus ($15/month or $150/year): 60 days of event history + 10 days of 24/7 recording
Both plans come with artificial intelligence (AI)-powered alerts for familiar faces, smoke alarms, and glass breaking. In the US, users also get e911 emergency calling and access to Google Assistant with Gemini AI.
What should users do before May 1?
- Download any saved video clips in the Nest app before cancellation.
- Check your email for updates, Google will send another reminder in April.
- Switch to a new Nest Aware plan to keep video history and smart alerts.
Google hasn’t confirmed which regions will lose support, but users who don’t upgrade will get an automatic cancellation and a prorated refund.
