Apple recently introduced an intriguing feature in iOS that allows the devices to modify iPhone app colours natively.

The Cupertino-based tech giant is seamlessly working to enhance customisation by each model launching every year, it’s getting more flexible and smooth. Now, the iOS 18 beta has allowed users to modify iPhone app colours into dark mode, tinting, and automatic switching between light and dark mode, and here’s how you can do it by following these steps:

Steps to switch on a dark mode app icons on iPhone

  1. Firstly, from the Home Screen, press in an empty area and click on ‘Edit’ in the top left corner.
  2. Now, tap on ‘Customise’ and select your desired theme whether ‘Dark’ or ‘Tinted.’
  3. If you want a monochromatic Dark Mode app icon then tap ‘Tinted’ to select the accent colour.
  4. Additionally, if you select ‘Dark’ or ‘Tinted’ then, you must click on ‘Sun Icon’ in the bottom left corner and see your customised app.

Things to remember while using the beta version:

  1. Dark Mode theme would apply on all the apps instead of a particular one.
  2. Moreover, the Dark mode theme only applies on Apple’s first party apps, however, it is expected to come in third-party apps as well.
  3. By using the tinting feature in iOS 18, the colour would be changed in all first and third-party apps in the current beta.

How does a dark mode app icon look in an iOS 18?

  1. Additionally, if users would select automatic while day, the app icons wouldn’t be changed until the nighttime. Then, select Dark to witness an immediate change.
