Checking whether your mobile phone is registered with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) is more essential than ever.

With strict measures to prevent the sales of unregistered devices, it's even more important to understand how to check IMEI with PTA. This should be done irrespective of buying a new phone, importing a device, or ensuring compliance with regulations to avoid future blockages on your smartphone.

The telecommunications regulator introduced the Device Identification Registration and Blocking System (DIRBS) to ensure only legally imported and tax-paid devices are used.

DIRBS has now become more user-friendly in 2025, automatically identifying and blocking non-compliant devices through PTA IMEI verification.

As it stands, using an unregistered phone can lead to unfavourable consequences. A non-PTA-approved device may work initially, but it will eventually be blocked, meaning users will not be able to make calls, texts, or use mobile data. .

How to check PTA IMEI registration

  • Dial *#06# on your phone to display your 15-digit IMEI number
  • Go to the official PTA DIRBS website at dirbs.pta.gov.pk
  • On the homepage, locate the “IMEI Check” field and enter your IMEI number
  • Click submit to see your device's compliance status

Another alternative method to check IMEI with the PTA is to use the SMS service by sending your IMEI to 8484. The DIRBS app, available on Android and iOS, also allows easy PTA IMEI verification and device registration.
