Integration with artificial intelligence (AI) features nowadays is a new norm, but the immensely deep inclusion of AI can sometimes feel like an intrusion and disrupt your online or offline activities. It's worth mentioning that while these AI features come to enhance everything from camera controls to voice assistants, some users prefer a simpler device with more privacy. The good part of them is that some of them can be disabled on your Android phone.
Here’s how to turn off AI features on Android
1. Disable AI in Google Messages
- Open the Google Messages app
- Tap your account icon in the upper-right corner and select Messages settings
- Choose Gemini in Messages
- Toggle the switch off
2. Uninstall the Gemini app
- Long-press the Gemini app icon on your home screen or in the app gallery
- Select Uninstall to remove it completely. If you want to keep the app, consider switching back to Google Assistant
3. Disable AI in Gmail
- Open the Gmail app
- Tap the menu icon in the upper-left corner and scroll down to Settings
- Select the account you want to modify
- Choose Google Workspace smart features and uncheck the boxes to disable these options
