Having a problem identifying a song that’s currently playing can be frustrating. Every iPhone user has been there, racking brains trying to figure out what the song is, humming the tune long after it’s stopped playing.
If you have an iPhone with an Action Button (the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max and any iPhone 16 model), you'll never have to guess what song is playing again as long as you have installed iOS 18.
You can easily assign the Recognise Music function to the Action Button and call upon the music recognition app Shazam in seconds.
How to identify songs using iPhone's Action Button
Gadinsider has compiled a guide on how to identify songs using the iPhone’s Action Button.
- Before you can identify songs using the Action Button on a compatible iPhone model, you need to assign the function. To do this, you will need to open the Settings app and select Action Button.
- Scroll through the options, until you come to Recognise Music.
- Once you have set up the Action Button, you can skip those first steps in future. From this point, you can simply press the physical Action button on your iPhone when you hear a song you wish to identify. Your iPhone will begin listening.
- After a few seconds of listening, the Recognise Music function should be able to identify and display the name of the song. You can tap the Apple Music button to listen to it.
