Huawei to compete Apple's iPhone 16 series with new Mate 70 models

Huawei is anticipated to unveil the Mate 70 series later this year, following leaks suggesting features to rival the upcoming Apple iPhone 16 lineup. While the lineup has not been officially confirmed. The rumoured smartphones are expected to succeed the Huawei Mate 60 series. The upcoming models might be available with the same models.

Gadgets360, citing Tipster Smart Pikachu shared in a Weibo post that Huawei aims to compete strongly with Apple by emphasising domestic production and leveraging self-developed hardware and technology to regain market leadership in China.

Recent growth in the Chinese market has favoured Huawei, with October sales data revealing an 83% increase, compared to Apple's 11 per cent growth, after the launches of the Mate 60 and iPhone 15 lineups. In Q3 2023, Huawei shipments rose 41% year-on-year following the launch of the Mate 60 models.

The positive trend continued in Q4 2023, with Huawei experiencing a 36.2% increase in shipments, while Apple's shipments in China contracted by 2.1% year-on-year. Despite holding the largest market share at 17.3%, Apple is anticipated to face challenges in the Chinese market.

The tipster also claimed that Huawei plans to achieve higher shipment volumes for the Mate 70 series, including the top-tier RS Ultimate model, surpassing volumes of previous models. The Mate 70 models are expected to feature a hybrid camera system, incorporating a new one-inch primary camera with a large aperture for enhanced light processing capabilities.

The Mate 70 series is also expected to receive a display upgrade with a quad micro-curved design, offering different screen sizes similar to iPhone models. Huawei's Harmony OS is anticipated to integrate AI features. While the company has not officially announced the lineup, these leaks suggest a strategic move by Huawei to compete vigorously with Apple in the upcoming smartphone market.
