In an effort to enhance its local technology manufacturing industry, Pakistan is taking significant moves following a meeting between the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Industries and Production Haroon Akhtar Khan, and representatives from the Chinese technology firm HYF, where they discussed establishing a laptop and tablet manufacturing industry in Pakistan.

HYF is a prominent Chinese company that is involved in the manufacture of laptops, tablets, and fingerprint devices. In the meeting held on Monday, Khan and the representatives from HYF focused on developing a plan to begin manufacturing in Pakistan, which has the potential to reduce the price of devices for consumers in Pakistan and create new jobs in the technology sector.

The special assistant remarked that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has requested the government to provide whatever assistance is possible to Chinese investors, stating that he will assure the delegation that their investment will be substantially safe in Pakistan.

Moreover, the government will continue its efforts to help onshore the technology sector in Pakistan, and they will ensure that investors are not impeded without necessity.

He also indicated that a new "Mobile Device Policy" is being formulated, which will also outline guidelines for laptops and tablets manufacturing. This is expected to boost the possibility of more local production and lessen reliance on imported devices.

In addition, the government has also simplified its visa processes to aid investors who would like to invest in the manufacturing discussed.

Business and visit visas will now be issued within 24 to 72 hours, making it easier for companies like HYF to establish operations in Pakistan quickly.

Khan directed the Pakistan Industrial Development Corporation (PIDC) and the Engineering Development Board (EDB) to work closely with HYF to ensure the smooth and speedy launch of the project.
