Punjab launches electro bus service in Sahiwal

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has officially launched the first electro bus service in Sahiwal, providing a modern and eco-friendly transport option for the city.

During the launch ceremony, a test ride took place by the chief minister along with Provincial Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan and senior officials.

Crowds gathered along the route to welcome the buses, reflecting strong public interest in the project.

Electro bus service routes

Initially, 16 electro buses will operate on four main routes: Arifwala Bypass to Sarwar Chowk, Noor Shah to KFC Bypass, Farid Town to Yousafwala, and General Bus Stand to Kamir.

Electro bus service fee

According to the authorities, more than 25,000 passengers will use the buses daily. The fare has been set at Rs20 per stop.

The electro buses will feature Wi-Fi, mobile charging facilities, CCTV cameras, and a separate compartment reserved for women, ensuring a safe and comfortable ride. A charging station for the buses has also been set up in the city.

According to the officials, the project is part of efforts to modernise public transport in Punjab’s cities by offering affordable, safe, and environmentally friendly alternatives.

Earlier, the Punjab government introduced the first fleet of 30 electro buses for Faisalabad as part of a green initiative to promote an electro ecosystem in the province.

By introducing electric buses, the provincial government aims to provide modern, safe and affordable transport facilities to the masses.
