Instagram has launched a new 2x speed playback feature for Reels, allowing users to watch videos at double speed. The feature is rolling out gradually, and all users should have access soon.

The Meta-owned platform announced that users can speed up Reels by long-pressing the right or left edge of the screen. The playback speed will remain fast as long as the user keeps pressing, offering better control over video viewing.

What to expect from Instagram’s 2x speed playback?

Instagram’s new update follows a trend set by platforms like TikTok, Netflix, and YouTube, which already allow variable playback speeds. However, YouTube Shorts does not yet support this feature.

The 2x speed playback option makes it easier for users to skim through content quickly. This is especially useful for those who prefer to watch videos at a faster pace while still engaging with Reels.

Instagram’s 2x speed playback feature rollout and availability

Despite the announcement, some users have reported that they cannot access the feature yet. Instagram responded to these concerns, stating that the rollout is still in progress.

“Everyone on IG should have access by the end of the day. Our rollouts typically take 24 hours,” a company spokesperson confirmed.

Users who do not see the feature yet are advised to update their Instagram app to the latest version.
