Social media users recently lodged a few complaints for meta-owned platform, Instagram regarding an issue that occurred on Wednesday.
Shockingly, a few Instagram posters received a notification from the app that “This story is no longer available,” and some users saw it on certain Stories. “Due to a technical issue, this story is no longer available. While we’ve since fixed this issue, your story can’t be restored.”
Certain photos have been permanently deleted from Instagram’s Stories archives which cannot be recovered, leading to user’s curiosity.

But, to soothe the frayed nerves of affected users, a Meta spokesperson took to the internet on Wednesday and said, “We found and fixed a bug that caused some people’s Story highlights and archives to be deleted. Unfortunately, we cannot restore these Stories and we’re letting people know in the app if they’re impacted.”
However, the actual number of affectees is still unknown, but according to Meta, only the affectees would receive the notice regarding the lost stories.
Meta further addressed the black screen error too, claiming it to be removed by July 2025.
Additionally, Story Archives is utilised to store your pictures and videos, because the app never saves your stories to your camera unless you have turned on settings, and this was the major effect of the error alongside the Story Highlights.
Users should therefore learn a valuable lesson from this error and develop the practice of regularly backing up their data using a third-party app instead of relying on a single backup.
