The government has decided to suspend cellular phone service across the country during the Muharram processions. The internet service will also remain suspended in areas along the route of the main processions during Youm-e-Ashura.

Meanwhile, Balochistan Home Minister Meer Zia ullah Langau said the internet and cellphone services would remain suspended in Quetta on Muharram 7 (July 14, Sunday) and 10 (July 17, Wednesday) from 6am to 12am midnight.

Peshawar's Capital City Police Peshawar (CCPO) has also announced the suspension of mobile phone services in the provincial capital on Muharram 9 and 10, which falls on July 17 and 18 (Tuesday and Wednesday), as a part of a security plan to maintain law and order during the holy month.

In other parts of the country cellular services will remain suspended only in areas which are in the route of the procession.

Muharram began on July 8 with the sighting of the lunar month's crescent in Pakistan.

Faithful hold processions and majalis across the country in Muharram, while religious scholars address huge gatherings amid tight security, with thousands of law enforcers deployed to ensure security.
