Apple has officially sanctioned third-party app stores on iPhones within the EU, while developers now have the option to provide alternative payment methods. Additionally, web browser developers are no longer required to use Apple's WebKit, and the NFC chip is now accessible for wireless payments unrelated to Apple Pay.

Apple Podcasts now offers automatic transcriptions in English, Spanish, French, and German, with synchronised text highlighting for enhanced comprehension and navigation. Moreover, users can search the text and tap to initiate audio playback from specific points.

Furthermore, iOS 17.4 introduces a diverse array of new emojis, including a mushroom, phoenix, lime, broken chain, and shaking heads. Additionally, 18 people and body emojis have been updated to allow facing in either direction.
More updates
Additional updates encompass battery health enhancements, Siri improvements (including the ability to read received messages in any supported language), stolen device protection, and virtual card numbers for Apple Cash. With the caller ID update, verified Apple business calls will display the name, logo, and department title. Numerous bug fixes are also included in this update.
Alongside iOS 17.4, Apple has released iPadOS 17.4, featuring similar changes, including adjustments to the App Store in compliance with the EU's Digital Markets Act.
