In iOS 18.2, Apple reinstated a Lock Screen feature that was informally mixed from its iPhone iOS two years ago, leaving many users wondering why it was taken away initially. The feature in question is the on-screen volume control slider in the Lock Screen media player interface.

Earlier in 2022, the volume slider was a familiar presence on the Lock Screen whenever media was playing. When Apple released iOS 16, however, it removed the control without informing the reason.

However, Apple has now brought back the control as an option in iOS 18.2. To enable volume controls on your iPhone Lock Screen, ensure you’re running iOS 18.2 or later.

  1. Launch the Settings app on your updated iPhone.
  2. Go to the Accessibility section.
  3. Scroll down, then head to the Audio & Visual page.
  4. Enable the new Always Show Volume Control toggle.
