Ahead of the release of the iPhone 16 series in the coming months, numerous rumours and reports have surfaced, each claiming something new about the upcoming flagship.
Recently, a new report suggests that we might see a huge increase in storage capacity in Apple’s new series, though it is not likely to come before 2026.
According to TrendForce, a Taiwan-based research firm, Apple might start releasing iPhones with quad-level cell (QLC) memory, with the iPhone 18 potentially being the first Apple device to feature 2TB of storage.

Earlier this year, it was reported that the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max would feature QLC, replacing the current triple-level cell (TLC) NAND flash memory.
Currently, iPhones utilise triple-level cell (TLC) technology. However, QLC would allow for larger storage capacity in the devices.
Moreover, QLC is supposed to be less expensive compared to the highly-priced TLC memory but is also less reliable. Therefore, iPhones featuring QLC are likely to face reliability issues.
Apple might start incorporating QLC memory into its iPhone 16, iPhone 17, and iPhone 18 lineups. Chinese mobile companies such as Huawei and Honor are also expected to start using QLC later this year.
However, iOS 18, in its third developer beta, is generally expected to come to the iPhone in September 2024, including the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and more.
