Islamabad expanded its vehicle emission testing facilities from one to four locations on Saturday to make compliance easier for motorists. Drivers can now get their vehicles tested at Lake View Park, F-9 Park, Metro Cash and Carry, and the original D-Chowk testing point.

Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon had visited all four facilities and asked the citizens not to delay the emission testing.

Authorities are saying the expansion will help improve traffic flow at testing sites and also encourage more people to participate in the inspection process.

Starting this week, the Islamabad Transport Authority initiated a vigorous crackdown on smoke-emitting automobiles and made the Vehicular Emission Clearance Certificate compulsory for all automobiles in operation within the city.

Chairman Irfan Memon made it clear that any smoke-emitting vehicle would not be permitted to run on the roads in Islamabad, underscoring that the drive was aimed at public health and protection of the environment.

All testing centres have been instructed to send in daily compliance reports for the smooth implementation of the campaign with transparency.

Authorities believe that increasing the number of emission testing points will not only offer convenience for motorists but also fortify the ongoing efforts of Islamabad to maintain a healthier Air Quality Index (AQI).
