As part of its efforts to combat environmental pollution, the Islamabad administration has initiated a crackdown on smoke-emitting vehicles.
Notably, commuters are being provided the facility of free vehicle emission testing at three locations—Old Parade Ground, F-9 Park, and the Excise Office—in the city until August 31, 2025.
With the initiative, the Islamabad administration aims to raise environmental awareness and improve the capital’s air quality by removing polluting vehicles from the roads.
It is worth noting that after the deadline, heavy fines will be imposed on vehicles entering the city with visible smoke emissions.
The facility has been operational since July 15. In the first phase, vehicles manufactured in 2021 or later are exempt from inspection. Moreover, both public and private vehicles are being tested with international-standard equipment.
Once a vehicle has passed the inspection, a barcode sticker for its windscreen is issued, which will keep it safe from heavy fines.
Notably, 2,778 vehicles have been tested over two weeks, with 2,665 declared compliant.
According to officials, the free service will be withdrawn from September 1, and smoke-emitting vehicles will be completely banned from entering the capital, and violators will face heavy fines.
