The Sindh Police are implementing a faceless e-challan system in Karachi to ensure transparency and efficiency in traffic rule enforcement.
The digital traffic fine system is meant to enhance road safety and minimise the necessity for direct contact between drivers and traffic officers.
Digital traffic fine system
In other words, an e-challan is a traffic ticket that is sent electronically to a driver who violates the law, such as speeding or jumping a red light.
Rather than pulling the driver over on the road, cameras and sensors are used to record the offence and subsequently send the fine to the individual's residence.
The move to implement this new system was decided during a meeting presided over by Sindh Inspector General (IGP) Ghulam Nabi Memon at the Central Police Office.
IGP Memon stated that the aim is to computerise the traffic management process in Karachi, the most populous and busiest city in Pakistan.
To complement the faceless e-challan system in Karachi, the police will employ advanced gadgets such as speed guns and digital meters.
Notably, these gadgets will be used to monitor speeding and other offences more precisely. The traffic units in the city will also be improved, and additional trained and courteous staff will be put on the roads.
Moreover, IG Karachi Javed Alam Odho mentioned that the police are in coordination with other departments to ensure all goes well.
