In a significant breakthrough, Kia has announced that its electric vehicles (EVs) will be able to access Tesla's Supercharger network by March 2025.

This development comes after an initial delay, as Tesla Supercharger's integration into flagship Kia vehicles was scheduled for January 2025.

The Kia models, including the Kia EV6 and EV9, will utilise North American Charging Standard (NACS) to Combined Charging Standard (CCS1) adapters to facilitate Supercharger access.

Currently, Kia dealerships are receiving the adapters, which will be provided free of charge to eligible EV6 and EV9 owners, meaning those who purchased the EVs on or after September 4, 2024.

Interestingly, Hyundai, Kia's sister company, has also begun shipping its 2025 Ioniq 5 EV models with native NACS ports, enabling Supercharger integration. Furthermore, existing Hyundai models with CCS1 ports can already utilise Supercharger stations with an adapter.

It should be noted that the adapters provided by Kia have a lower amperage rating (350 amps) compared to those used by other manufacturers (typically 500 amps).

The automobile company emphasised that the adapters are specifically engineered to meet Tesla's charging specifications and are designed for use with Kia EV vehicles.

The company has also warned that using alternative adapters might result in repairs not covered by Kia's warranty.
