Mete-owned instant messaging platform WhatsApp is indulged in the development of a new feature that will let users lock chats even on the linked devices.

The purported feature in the works indicates that the social company is diligently undertaking measures to enhance user privacy on WhatsApp while expanding its chat lock feature it released approximately a year ago, making it mandatory for users to enter device password to access chats.

The development of the feature was disclosed by WABetaInfo, the WhatsApp feature tracker, which claimed the feature was spotted on WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.24.8.4 of the app, as the company is gearing up to release it on the stable version of the app in the near future.

Secret code feature on WhatsApp

This upcoming feature will let users set secret codes from the primary device of a WhatsApp account. These codes will only work on linked devices to open chats.

Since these codes won't be viable for the main devices, users can set biometric verification methods such as fingerprint sensor on Android phones and Touch ID or Face ID on iPhones. Bear in mind that biometric methods won't work on linked devices.

Who can access new WhatsApp feature?

The WABetaInfo report adds that the because the feature is exclusively available on the beta version of the app, only beta testers who are enrolled on the beta programme have access to the feature.

The social media company has not announced anything regarding the full-fledged roll out of the feature for stable WhatsApp users. However, if you happen to be a normal user and eager to try out the feature, you need to enroll yourself in the WhatsApp beta programme from the Google Play Store to become eligible.
