As messaging apps are continuously improving in this highly advanced era, tech giant Google seems to be working on a much-awaited feature for its Messages app: the ability to share live location in real time.

As of now, Google Messages users can only share their static location via Google Maps by tapping the “+” icon, selecting Location, and sending a clickable link. The feature helps users in various situations, ranging from meeting up with friends to calling for a ride.

Besides, the ability to share live locations would offer even more convenience and accuracy, as noted by Android Authority.

Unlike rivals such as WhatsApp and Telegram, the Google-owned Messages app hasn’t supported live location sharing until now.

Fortunately, this is about to change, as a new line of code spotted in the latest beta version of the app suggests an upcoming live location shortcut.

“We’ve spotted a string in the beta code that points to live location sharing, but it hasn’t been enabled yet,” said a developer familiar with the matter.

Although the feature is not yet active, the code reference showed the possibility of live tracking in the works and coming to users soon.
