macOS Tahoe 26 brings icon tinting, menu bar tweaks and folder customisation to your Mac

Apple’s most recent macOS upgrade, macOS Tahoe 26, is focused on personalisation. The addition of the Liquid Glass design provides your Mac with the highest level of visual flexibility yet. Users can tweak everything from app icons to the menu bar, folders, and even Control Centre layouts.

Here are three different ways you can personalise your macOS with the following features:

Icon tinting comes to Mac

In a follow-up to iOS 18, macOS Tahoe 26 allows your app icons to be tinted with a colour style. To play with tinting:

  1. Choose System Settings > Appearance > Icon & widget style
  2. Select one of four styles: default, dark, clear, or pick any colour manually.
  3. Light and dark icon styles are available to match the theme you have selected.

Customising menu bar

The now transparent menu bar was a bold change; however, it was not liked by everyone. Apple added a simple option:

  1. Choose System Settings > Menu Bar
  2. Toggle "Show menu bar background" on or off

This gives you the option to continue with a fully transparent look or use a shaded background for better differentiation of different options.

Folder Customization

Now you can easily personalise folders with colours, emojis, or symbols:

  1. Open Finder
  2. Right-click on any folder and choose Customise
  3. Want to change all folder colours system-wide? Head to the Appearance section in System Settings.
