MediaTek, a Taiwanese semiconductor company, has announced its latest chipset for Chromebooks. The upcoming chipset is designed to deliver fast performance, efficient battery life, and advanced AI features for the next generation of Chromebooks.
What's new?
The latest chipset MediaTek is introducing soon is known as the "Kompanio 838", an octa-core chip that uses a 6nm processor, making it more efficient than its predecessor.
It supports the output of two 4K displays simultaneously and features a dedicated NPU (Neural Processing Unit) for AI tasks, delivering 4 tops of performance (Tera Operational Per Second). This means that Chromebooks powered by this chipset will be able to handle AI-intensive tasks with ease.
Better battery life and performance
MediaTek claims the Kompanio 838 will provide "all-day" battery life, making it perfect for students, professionals, and anyone who needs a reliable Chromebook. The chip also supports DDR4 and LPDDR4X memory, doubling the memory bandwidth compared to previous generations. This means you'll enjoy faster performance and more efficient multitasking.
AI enhancements and multimedia support
The Kompanio 838 features a dedicated AI processor, the MediaTek NPU 650, which enables more interactive and high-quality multimedia experiences. The chip also supports AV1 video decoding, a new standard for video compression. Additionally, it includes built-in support for Wi-Fi 6 and 6E, as well as an upgraded ISP (Image Signal Processor) for better camera support.
Lenovo Chromebooks to feature Kompanio 838
Lenovo has announced that it will use the MediaTek Kompanio 838 in its upcoming Chromebooks. That means you'll soon be able to experience the power and performance of this new chip for yourself.
