Meta has introduced “Edits,” a brand-new video editing app, designed to rival CapCut. This move comes after ByteDance’s CapCut was removed from the Google Play Store and Apple’s App Store due to the TikTok ban in the United States.
While TikTok has been restored in the US following a 14-hour outage, the future of ByteDance’s video editing app remains unstable.
Edits: Meta’s new video editing app
In a post on Threads, Instagram head Adam Mosseri announced that Edits will be launched next month starting with iOS, followed by an Android version later this year.
“Today we’re announcing a new app called “Edits,” for those of you who are passionate about making videos on your phone. There’s a lot going on right now, but no matter what happens it’s our job to provide the best possible tools for creators,” Mosseri stated.
He also noted that the company is working with a handful of video creators to get their feedback and improve the app’s experience further.
How do “Edits” works?
According to the company, Edits will have a suite of creative tools, including a dedicated tab for inspiration, a tab for keeping track of ideas, and a high-quality camera.
The app will also allow users to share draft versions of creations with friends and collaborators.
Additionally, the app will have performance analytics, allowing creators to track their video's success on Instagram after publication.
Currently, Edits is available for preorders in the App Store.
