Microsoft may have accidentally revealed that Xbox consoles could soon support Steam games. A now-deleted promotional image showed Steam as a category in the Xbox app, hinting at a major expansion of Microsoft’s gaming ecosystem.

Microsoft has been focusing on making gaming more accessible across different platforms. The company has already expanded beyond traditional consoles, integrating Xbox Game Pass with smart TVs, handhelds, and mobile devices.

However, it seems Microsoft may take things further by bringing Steam games to Xbox, allowing users to access their PC game libraries from their consoles.

The image, first spotted by The Verge, was part of a blog post about Xbox’s commitment to accessibility. It showed a reworked Xbox UI with a section for Steam games alongside regular Xbox titles.

Notably, the menu was displayed on a TV, a tablet, and an Asus ROG Ally, suggesting that Microsoft is working toward a unified gaming experience across Xbox, Windows, and handheld devices.

While the image may have been a mistake, reports suggest Microsoft is working on an Xbox app update that will show all installed PC games, including Steam titles. This move aligns with Microsoft's broader business strategy, focusing on software and services rather than just hardware.

Additionally, Microsoft is rumoured to be developing an Xbox handheld, expected between 2025 and 2027. If true, Steam support could be a key feature, helping Microsoft compete in the growing portable gaming market.
