MWC 2024: ThinkPad X12 Detachable leads Lenovo's debut of core ultra-powered laptops

At MWV 2024, Lenovo unveiled a range of new business laptops and hybrids, introducing updates to both the ThinkPad T-series and the ThinkBook line. Termed "AI PCs" by the company, these devices are distinguished by a dedicated Microsoft Copilot button, granting users instant access to the digital assistant.

Among the newly announced models are the ThinkPad T14 Gen 5, ThinkPad T16 Gen 3, ThinkPad X12 Detachable Gen 2, and ThinkBook 14 2-in-1 Gen 4. Powered by the latest Intel Core Ultra processors, a standard feature in new Lenovo computers, these devices promise enhanced performance and efficiency.

The ThinkPad X12 Detachable Gen 2 showcases a robust 3:2 display protected by Corning Gorilla Glass, driven by an Intel Core Ultra U processor. Offering up to 32GB of RAM for seamless multitasking, this tablet/laptop hybrid features a detachable backlit folio keyboard with a three-button TrackPad, along with front-facing and rear-facing cameras for versatile usage.

Meanwhile, the redesigned ThinkBook 14 2-in-1 Gen 4 boasts a sleek 16.85mm profile, slightly thinner than its predecessor, and weighs just over 3.5 pounds. Its 14-inch display offers a 16:10 aspect ratio, complemented by a larger touchpad crafted with glass-like Mylar. Additionally, it comes with the new Magnetic Slim Pen for enhanced touchscreen controls.

In addition to the Core Ultra processors and seamless Copilot integration, the ThinkPad T14 Gen 5 and T16 Gen 3 are designed for easy DIY repairs, guided by input from the iFixit team. Featuring customer-replaceable parts such as DIMM, SSD, WWAN card, and battery, these laptops have received an impressive repairability score of 9.3 out of 10 from iFixit, surpassing many competitors.

The ThinkPad T14 Gen 5 and T16 Gen 3 will be available for purchase starting April, with prices starting at $950 and $1,220 respectively. The ThinkPad X12 Detachable Gen 2 will also debut in April, starting at $1,400, while the ThinkBook 14 2-in-1 Gen 4 is slated for release in March, starting at $1,170.
