The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has announced plans to significantly widen its services in Karachi to reduce citizen access barriers, which ultimately intend to improve service delivery.
According to officials, the current number of around 359 registration counters in the city will be increased to around 550 by the end of the fiscal year in June.
Notably, while these counters will be increased at centres across Karachi, NADRA will ease both service delivery and access to its services by allowing senior citizens to produce evidence of life online using a "Proof of Life" feature on the Pak-ID mobile app.
This service is targeted to pensioners, allowing them to verify their identity using a video call, who may otherwise struggle to provide their fingerprints to maintain their pension.
Reporting on the announcement, NADRA's Director of Media Syed Shabahat Ali was quoted as saying that the new service would provide a long-term solution for thousands of pensioners who face barriers in accessing the service.
"This step will make it easier for pensioners to verify their identity and prevent pensioners from visiting centres to prove their lives," he said.
