The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has made some significant changes in its Pak-ID app to streamline the procedure for cancelling deceased people's ID cards across Pakistan.

Many people neglect to cancel their ID cards or register deaths, which causes issues with inheritance, pensions, and other legal issues.

In order to resolve this problem, NADRA has made extensive changes, such as doing away with the cancellation fee and enhancing its system for exchanging data with the Provincial Civil Registration Management System (CRMS).

By requiring biometric verification of deaths, the number of inaccurate or fraudulent entries has decreased.

Since putting the new system into place, officials said the results have been positive, with a noticeable increase in death registrations that has resulted in more accurate family records.

In addition, NADRA has added new functionality to the Pak-ID app that enables users to request the cancellation of a deceased relative's ID card directly from the app.

In three districts of Punjab, the Pak-ID app has enabled death registration as a pilot project. Citizens can now view and report errors in their family records for free using the Pak-ID app.

To create an accurate, trustworthy, and transparent national database, NADRA encourages citizens to promptly register all significant life events and maintain current family records.

The authority intends to increase the number of birth, marriage, divorce, and death registration services available across the country.
