The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has announced the launch of a facial recognition facility, designed specifically for elderly citizens in Pakistan.

According to a Nadra spokesperson, this innovative development is part of Nadra’s New Year initiatives, as decided in a recent meeting.

Held at Nadra headquarters, the meeting was attended by officials and representatives from different regulatory bodies where they discussed implementing advancements in biometric and identity verification systems.

Starting January 15, 2025, the facial recognition facility will be available nationwide through the Pak-ID mobile app at Nadra centres.

During the meeting, Nadra Chairman, Lt. Gen. Muhammad Munir Afsar, shed light on the challenges senior citizens, particularly pensioners, face in verifying their identities due to faint fingerprint impressions.

He stressed the need for adopting modern technologies to address the needs of this vulnerable group.

The meeting also explored the promising potential of the recognition technology as a next-generation identity verification tool.

Additionally, Nadra officials provided insights into the “National Registration and Biometric Policy Framework” and the “Digital Economy Enhancement Project (DEEP).”

These projects are designed for Pakistan’s digital transformation and economic growth.

Nadra’s new initiative aims to streamline identity verification processes and ensure better access to essential services.
