In the wake of rising cyberattacks around the world, it emerged on Friday that bids to takeover networks remained the biggest concern for Pakistani businesses throughout 2024.

For businesses relying on IT for the routine conduct of enterprises, network security breaches affected around 71% of companies last year, whereas 49% of the businesses were hit by malware installations and attempts to takeover attacked systems, The News reported while citing the latest Kaspersky IT Security Economics report.

The report stated that even firms equipped with strong security measures were subjected to numerous cyber attacks.

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) were also hit by countless network security issues, a significant chunk of which was attributed to intentional and unintentional actions by employees.

Network security attacks damage businesses by using loopholes to access company networks and steal sensitive data, applications, and workloads. Cybercriminals have always exploited such flaws to illicitly gain access and install malware and spyware in a company's systems.

The Kaspersky report outlined that the rise in cyber attacks is triggered by a considerable surge in the volume of data created, stored and transmitted using digital means.
