Nintendo Switch 2 is releasing soon on June 5, 2025, and the video game company has rolled out a big update to its parental controls app that allows parents to better manage their kids' gaming activity, especially how they use GameChat.
The update is focused on ensuring that young gamers can have fun while being safe as they enjoy highly anticipated games like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, an adventure game that encourages players to explore an expansive fantasy world while fighting enemies and solving puzzles.
Now, with some new features added to the app, parents will have more control over who their children are able to talk to online through the GameChat feature on Savannah 2.
According to Nintendo, if a child is under 16, they can only chat with friends that are approved by a parent or guardian.
Moreover, the app even enables parents to write notes for every friend, which can be useful to remember who is who.
The update also has additional reporting, tracking how long their kids are using GameChat and who they are talking to.
Nintendo has also made another layer of control with video chats. If a player under 16 tries to start a video call, the app will notify the parent to seek their permission to initiate the chat.
