WhatsApp has grown from a simple messaging app into a key tool for personal, social, and business communication worldwide. In Pakistan, the platform is now deeply embedded in daily life, with about 98.3 million accounts, ranking the country 7th globally.
Pakistan’s user base is mostly Android (95%), with iOS at just 5%, mirroring device preferences seen in India. Profile pictures are used by 58.5% of users, while only 20% customise their “About” text.
A total of 21.7% of Pakistan's accounts are business accounts, making it one of the highest ratios globally. This reflects strong commercial adoption, even if personalisation would remain limited. The companion feature is only used by 5.4% of users.
Among the Muslim-majority countries that made it to the top 10 are Indonesia, Türkiye, Egypt, and Pakistan. Indonesia has 235 million users, with 10.7% business accounts, while the business accounts for Türkiye and Egypt are 3% and 11.3%, respectively.

Worldwide, India is the leading country, with 749 million users, of which only 9.8% are business accounts. WhatsApp Business usage on Android dominates most countries, with iOS seeing higher adoption in countries like the US, Germany, and Türkiye.
While WhatsApp connects millions, it is also a target for fraud. Scams range from code phishing and crypto fraud to account hijacking in Pakistan, for which most people use WhatsApp business accounts to keep themselves safe from such acts.
Meta says it has disabled 6.8 million accounts linked to scams. Authorities say users should ensure two-factor authentication is enabled and report suspicious activity. Losses from these scams are estimated at over $9 billion annually, roughly 2.5% of Pakistan's Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
