The Pakistan Citizen Portal—a platform intended to promote accountability and transparency—has been struck by technical problems on Android devices.
The application has been frequently crashing, preventing users from filing complaints and failing login attempts.
The Ministry of Information Technology claims that code-level bugs in the Android app and an SSL certificate issue are to blame for the problem.
The ministry explained, "These issues affected secure connections and app stability."
However, a new version of the app has been created and submitted to the Google Play Store for approval, according to confirmation from the ministry.
The latest app build fixes issues with both code-level bugs and SSL certificates.
In the meantime, citizens are encouraged to use the web portal or iOS app, which are both operational and have no issues.
Users have been reassured by officials that the issue is transient and will be fixed after the new version is authorised.
The ministry reaffirmed that "the issue is limited to Android and will be fixed as soon as the Play Store authorises the update."
The recurring problems have angered users; one user wrote, "The app keeps crashing again and again." Soon after the update is approved, the ministry anticipates full service restoration.
