Cellular services started to crawl back to life in several parts of the country on Thursday evening after having been suspended from around 8am, one of the security measures taken on account of elections 2024.

Taking to X (formerly named Twitter), the Ministry of Interior confirmed that mobile phone services have started to resume partially in various parts of the country.

It further said that the cellular services will be completely restored throughout the country soon.

According to the ministry, the services have been restored in Bhakkar, Sardogha, Rawalpindi, Taxila, Gujar Khan Chakri, Loralai, Sibi and Jhal Magsi.

It further said that the cellular services have also been restored in all parts of Sindh and in some parts of Karachi except Malir.

It should be noted that earlier today mobile services were "temporarily" suspended across Pakistan due to recent incidents of terrorism, said the interior ministry on polling day.

The ministry added that the security measures are "essential" to maintain law and order and to deal with 'potential threats'.

There was no prior warning that mobile services would be suspended. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, a day earlier, assured that internet services will not be suspended.
