In an attempt to nurture Pakistan's future engineers, the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB), under the Ministry of IT and Telecom, has announced the establishment of three Semiconductor Education & Research Clusters (SERCs), aiming to train over 1,000 engineers by 2030.

The clusters will enhance Pakistan’s role in the global semiconductor industry, as Pakistan’s IT sector has always prioritised software exports while leaving the semiconductor field largely unexplored.

The initiative reflects on the government's willingness to equip Pakistani engineers with essential skills amid a rise in global demand for chip design and verification specialists.

The SERCs will be established in the North, Centre, and South regions. They will modernise curricula in electronics, electrical, and computer engineering by integrating advanced semiconductor design training.

The programme will primarily focus on chip design, verification, applied research and development, and innovative industry solutions.

It should be noted that the primary objectives of the SERCs include developing a talent pipeline, enhancing academic and research capabilities in universities, encouraging collaboration between academia and industry, and promoting local research in the semiconductor ecosystem.

With a deadline of September 26, 2025, PSEB has invited public sector universities to submit proposals through the e-procurement system to ensure transparency.
