The government of Pakistan is enforcing stricter regulations to ensure that citizens travelling abroad meet all necessary requirements, with immigration authorities offloading passengers at airports even if they hold valid visas.
Ministry of Interior has granted the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) expanded powers to scrutinise outbound travellers more closely.
Under the new measures, passengers may be barred from boarding flights if they lack prior travel experience, have limited English-language proficiency, or fail to demonstrate sufficient financial support.
Officials say the checks are essential to protecting Pakistan’s international reputation. According to the government, a number of travellers have gone abroad in the past and failed to return, causing diplomatic concerns and harming the country’s image overseas. The stricter screening aims to prevent such incidents by ensuring only well-prepared travellers depart.
Despite legal challenges from some offloaded passengers, the government continues to defend its policy. Travellers are being urged to cooperate with airport authorities and to ensure they meet all requirements before arriving at the airport.
Authorities have advised passengers to carry complete documentation, maintain a clear and credible travel itinerary, and show proof of adequate financial resources.
