Punjab Traffic Police on Wednesday announced new ordinance for commuters across the province, warning of heavy fines and stricter penalties will be charged.

On its Facebook post, Traffic Police Punjab stated: "New fines begin to be implemented across the province; heavy fines will be imposed in case of mistake."

If you're violating a one-way traffic rule, then a fine of up to Rs50,000 or six months' imprisonment. "Strict action for missing documents. Obey Traffic Laws. Stay Safe," said Punjab Traffic Police.

The new ordinance makes it mandatory for car drivers to wear a seat belt, with strict penalties for non-compliance. You can get punishment for underage driving, which has been doubled, and parents will also be held legally responsible.

Meanwhile, drivers who violate red signal will also receive heavier e-challans, as mentioned below:

  • Cars: Rs5,000
  • 2,000cc vehicles: Rs10,000
  • Vehicles above 2,000cc: Rs15,000

Punjab Traffic Police officials advised citizens to follow Traffic laws to avoid any fines while driving on the roads.
