As winter approaches in Karachi and rumours about the gas loadsheeding continue to circulate, the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) on Tuesday denied all reports regarding the issuance of gas supply schedule.

Speaking to Gadinsider, the spokesperson said: "No loadshedding schedule has been announced yet."

On the sidelines, chairing a meeting on seasonal gas load management, Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaz Malik directed the gas companies to take all measures necessary to maintain a steady winter supply for domestic consumers.

The managing directors of Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) and SSGC briefed the minister on gas availability across Pakistan. The petroleum minister stated that the domestic gas supply was 'significantly better' this year as compared to last winter.

SNGPL's managing directors told the minister that consumers were receiving gas not only during mealtimes but also from 5am to 10pm. Applauding the efforts, Malik added that the improvement in gas supply had been made keeping in view tha public convenience.

It should be noted that the gas is supplied through pipelines to households, which claim 50% of available supplies, followed by the fertiliser sector, independent power plants and industrial and compressed natural gas (CNG) sectors.
