Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab on Friday announced that Green Line BRT is finally set to restart its halted second phase construction, with new stations and a revised plan aimed at speeding up completion of the project.
Officials stated that a 1.8-kilometre stretch from Numaish Chowrangi to Municipal Park (Jama Cloth) will include three new bus stations. A Traffic Signal Priority (TSP) system will be installed to provide buses priority at traffic lights, giving passengers a faster and smoother travel experience.
The Green Line BRT project — initially launched in February 2016 under former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif — was finished by January 2022 after six years, with expenses rising to Rs35 billion.
During the Pakistan Infrastructure Development Co. Ltd (PIDCL) meeting, Wahab stated: “Work is restarting immediately and will be completed within the approved timeline."
It should be noted that the Green Line BRT project's first phase runs from Surjani Town to Numaish, while the second phase is expected to be extended to Municipal Park, along with M.A. Jinnah Road, which will advance travel options for Karachiites.
Currently, the first phase manages 80,000 passengers on a daily basis, expecting to increase to 135,000 passengers daily.
