The Sindh government on Wednesday announced that double-decker buses and new electric buses will be launched in Karachi next week to provide an advanced commute option to citizens.

Sindh Senior Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit, Sharjeel Inam Memon said that the transport department is upgrading the system across the province. Memon briefed on the progress of the Yellow Line and Red Line BRT projects, the upcoming launch of EV taxi service in the metropolitan city and the second phase of the Pink Scooties scheme.

"Transport department is engaged in talks for 'free bike service' for special people," said Memon, adding that the double-decker buses will only run over Shahrah-e-Faisal.

The Sindh government is also planning to launch the EV taxi service by December and add another five hundred buses during the current financial year.

The senior minister directed officials to finalise all operational preparations for the new routes, along with speeding up work on the Yellow Line BRT, completing depots quickly, and ensuring timely utility transfers so that the project's pace is not affected.

It should be noted that the second part of the Taj Haider Bridge will start soon, and from today, two-way traffic has begun on the bridge.
